We are creating a Futures Design project (combining art, storytelling, and interactive prototypes) to imagine, explore, and debate alternative futures while developing recommendations that support safer, more equitable, and violence-free music communities.
This project also seeks to bring greater attention to the culture of silence that too often surrounds gender-based violence, harassment, and harm within music communities and encourage conversations.
Project outputs will focus on 5-10 future design scenarios as discussion drivers around ways we could improve safety (e.g. culture, policy and legal changes, funding models, trainings, etc.), in the form of fictional and interactive storytelling artifacts (called Design Fiction). This allows us to keep info anonymous and focused on the patterns that emerge, and it helps people break out of their current bias when exploring solutions. About the Project
We are collecting anonymous feedback about safety, gender-based violence, harassment, and harm within music communities across Canada and the United States. Your insights will help inform a Futures Design project that imagines design solutions that can help create safer futures for women and gender-diverse musicians, industry professionals, and music fans.

We’re a small group of friends who work as independent women musicians, writers, and speculative designers. Each of us has personally experienced or witnessed gender-based violence, harassment, and unsafe conditions in the music industry. This project is not affiliated with any music employer, label, union, or government agency.
